DUBAI: The free-to-air kids’ channel Spacetoon is set to debut its first co-production, an animated series titled MIA.

MIA is a new 3D CGI comedy-adventure series for kids aged 2 to 6 that will launch on Spacetoon in the fourth quarter of this year and will soon launch on the main TV stations in Malaysia and Indonesia. The series will also air in France on TiJi, in Canada on SRC and on other European stations in the coming year. It follows a little mouse, her grandmother Mimi and their friends—a spider, a frog, a turtle, a bat and a rat. They all share The Big House on Victoria Street, where they live in nooks and crannies. MIA has a strong environmental message and educational underpinning. It is based on award-winning educational software translated into 17 languages and sold in 40 territories across the world. MIA is a co-production between Spacetoon affiliate Lalune Light Studio, France-based Cyber Group Studios and Canada-based Sardine Productions.

Fayez Weiss Al Sabbagh, the president of Spacetoon Kids TV, said: “MIA is a beautifully designed, wonderfully written and brilliantly realized animated series that derives wonder and learning from the everyday through the adventures of a group of charming and delightful characters. It has already enjoyed a positive response from broadcasters and educators in a number of territories and will, I am sure, be a very popular show with children and parents alike.”

A MIA toy line has already been developed, with Spacetoon and Lalune Light Studio managing the licensing campaign for MIA across a number of major territories. Spacetoon broadcasts in Arabic to 22 countries and more than 130 million viewers.
